Our half-day float on the Rappahannock River from Mott's Run to the

Virginia Outdoor Center explores the same subjects, plus the fascinating story of the pre-Civil War Rappahannock Canal. This float has moderate rapids and previous paddling experience is a must.

Our historical scholarship includes indigenous Algonquian communities like the

Rappahannock Tribe.

We are also longtime environmental educators, with a focus on youth outreach.

Engaging young people

The Essex County Museum and Historical Society has a first-class museum in Tappahannock. Featured stories include local Native American communities, the Civil War, and commercial fishing in the Rappahannock. Learn about Colonial Era pirates and the oyster wars of the late 1800s. 


Friends of Dragon Run

offers fantastic tours of this unique ecosystem, located on the Middle Peninsula halfway between Tappahannock and the mouth of the Rappahannock at Stingray Point.

Local historians Richard Moncure and Nate Parker earn rave reviews for their tours of the Middle Rappahannock. They know the sources and they know the places. They also know seafood and how to keep their guests entertained!
